Set up my tent before the hike at the camping spot. I know I would be exhausted to set my tent up after a long hike! The orange one is mine and the yellow is my friend's.
This is Charlie and Kai- They are my friend's dogs and they both tagged along. Kai likes to look out the window.
Devil’s Lake State Park
After coming back from my trip to Toronto, me, my friend, and her two dogs (Kai and Charlie) went car camping together in Devil’s Lake State Park. It was supposed to be a backpacking trip but it turned into a car camping since parking was available at the Upper Ice Age Campsite (this is where we camped) so we dropped off our camping gears before hitting the trail. It was a 3 hour drive from Chicago to get to Wisconsin but we weren’t bored since we talked about her two dogs, my upcoming trip to Anchorage and her April trip to Japan.
Hike Length

Total 9.51 miles: Ice Age Trail -> Steinke Basin Loop-> off the beaten path (couldn’t find CCC trail so we became pioneers and hiked through places that were not trails😅) -> Devil‘s Lake -> Trail Derailments Hike -> Upper ICE Age Campsite
This was our full day hike- we started around 9:30am and came back to our campsite around 6:15pm. We took multiple breaks and had lunch but we were all exhausted at the end of the day.
Kai and Charlie (the two dogs) were super happy & excited when they first got on the trail but when we were heading back to our campsite in the afternoon, they were exhausted and refused to hike 😂 Kai laid himself down on the lawn and took a nap, and Charlie followed him and also decided to chill before making our way back to the campsite.

Doggies playing in water.

Kai decided to take a quick nap before we move on!

Devil’s Lake was really big! It is finally summer so we saw a lot of people swimming, and paddling on the lake. I even saw a poodle paddling with some other people. Kai and Charlie also went into water (it was Charlie’s first dip in the water in his life, and both me and my friend were so proud and happy to see him swim).
Hiking and Campfire
When we came back to our campsite, we met people from our hiking group. We were supposed to meet and hike with the group when we first got to the campsite but they already started hiking so we ended up hiking on our own and we met our group when we were done hiking.
We did campfire at night, and gathered around to chitchat before going to bed. I literally passed out in my tent and slept like a baby! This trip was so fun and I had a great time hiking with my friend and her two dogs! I hope to visit Devil’s Lake again with my swim suit so I can do some swimming in the lake!

Left: Campfire time. We gathered around the campfire and had some chit-chat time. Right: Gazing up above the night sky is my favorite!
